Last post

This post will be my last. In this post I will be reflecting on this blog about Amelia Earhart. I will discuss what things I have learned by researching her. I will talk about what were the most challenging things about this blog and finally what is most rewarding.

I learned many things about Amelia but I'm only going to talk about the two most surprising things I learned about her. When Amelia flew the first time I always thought she flew across the Atlantic solo. But while I was researching  I found that she actually flew with pilot Wilmer Shultz and co pilot Louis Gordon. She was only a passenger on this flight and didn't do much flying but this sparked her interest of flying solo.

Another thing I found interesting while doing this blog, was that they found parts of her plane by an island. They were doing another search for her plane and looking for things that might be hers. And they were taking pictures of the ocean floor. In the picture they saw what looked like plane parts. On the nearby island they also found some freckle cream and other things too. I thought this was really cool.

Figuring out what to write for certain posts was really hard for me. When I had to do a post on compare and contrast I couldn't think of anything to do it on. And when I had to do a post on what's in the news lately about Amelia it was hard to find stuff on that.

Also time was an issue for me, I felt that on the earlier posts I didn't get enough time to do them. We only got a day to figure out what to write and had to have it typed the next day. We would do two blogs a week.

Learning a lot about Amelia Earhart was really rewarding. I always new a little about Amelia Earhart, so by doing this blog I got to know more and more about who she was and all the different accomplishments she did in her life.

I was getting really sick of doing this project and I'm glad this is the last post. It was fun learning about Amelia but towards the end it was getting boring kind of. And it's great feeling that I accomplished this project and learning more about Amelia.

This is my last post on Amelia Earhart. She has done so many great things and even though doing this blog was hard at times I still loved learning more and more about her great life. Thanks everyone for reading my blog on Amelia.

The 5 greatest accomplishments of Amelia Earhart

In this post I'm going to focus on Amelia Earhart's greatest accomplishments. She is the most famous female pilot in the world because of everything she achieved and also when she disappeared because nobody could find her and still they are looking for her.

Accomplishment #5: longest flight
Even though Amelia Earhart went missing when she tried flying around the world, she still accomplished something. She broke the record of the longest flight without stopping. She flew from Miami Florida starting her 22,000 mile journey to Lae, New Guinae. This was one of the biggest accomplishments she achieved.

Accomplishment #4: first solo flight across pacific
In January 1935, Amelia decided to fly solo across the Pacific Ocean. She started in Honolulu and flew all the way to Oakland California, completing yet another achievement.

Accomplishment #3: she got her flying license
After Amelia graduated from the Curtiss School of aviation, she was awarded her pilots license. She was the first woman to get this license and the 17th person(lib.purdue.org). Read more about this at: (lib.purdue.org)

Accomplishment #2: first flight across the Atlantic
Her first huge accomplishment was when she flew the Atlantic Ocean. In may she decided she would like to fly the Atlantic alone this time. She had already flew the ocean with two pilots. She wrote a book about that flight because it was her first major flight. She said to the reporter after she got off the plane that "she felt like a sack of potatoes, just sitting there" and she wanted to try it for herself. On may 20, 1932 she took off from Harbor Grace, Newfoundland and flew to Northern Ireland. When she got back she was a worldwide sensation and proved to every one that she was a brave pilot.(airandspace.si.edu)

Accomplishment #1: flying lessons
Ever since Amelia went to the fair when she was a child she always wanted to fly. When she went to California to visit her sister she decided to take flying lessons. In December 1920 she took her first lesson. And when her lesson was over she said to her instructor ''as soon as I left the ground, I felt myself I had to fly".(ameriaslibrary.gov)

These are just some of Amelia's greatest accomplishments. She has done so many amazing things in her life.

Flying versus Driving

Would it be better to fly or drive to certain places? Some say its easier to fly but it's really costly. Amelia Earhart is a pilot so she prefers to fly, it's faster to travel by plane than car. It's safer to fly than driving because planes don't crash very often and cars get in crashes a lot. My sources are travels.com and international-student.com.

My first source says that flying is safer than any other method of travel, although its very costly it's safer than driving a car. When you drive by car it takes longer to get to other states and areas and isn't very comfortable.Planes offer food and drinks and if you ride first class you can rent a cabin to sleep in. The modern world would be a very different place if we didn't have flight. Since we have planes we can visit relatives in other parts of the world more often.(travels.com)

The cost of flying keeps people from traveling by air. It's easier to fill up your car and drive to your destination. Airplanes cause  a lot of pollution because they let off greenhouse gases which cause global warming(international-student.com). It costs way to much to fly because prices are really high.

Both sources say flying is the fastest mode of transportation. It's easier to visit relatives that live out of state and its easier to go on business trips for work. The cost of flying is really high and driving is cheaper. The modern world would be a very different place if we didn't have planes to travel to visit people with and we can bring aid to other countries that need help.

Source one says when you travel by plane it's easier to get sick because their is no fresh air. If someone has a cold and coughs or sneezes, all the passengers would be at risk of getting sick. Source two says that if people had a traumatizing plane ride they could become afraid to fly. So many people who are afraid of fly prefer to drive to where ever their going.

I think flying would be a better way to get places because you can travel faster and get to places quicker. You can visit relatives in other areas. Amelia Earhart prefers to fly because she could get to certain places faster and she thought flying was really fun. And loved the way it made her feel.
